More wood!

Last weekend I visited a local orchard where Apple and Cherry wood was being offered for sale, for smoking food! Now I’m a fan of a good smoked ham as much as anyone, but I also saw the potential to make a contact and get some nice wood for turning. So bright and early on Saturday morning I headed into the hills and collected a boot load of Apple wood. It’s going to need a bit of cleaning up, but it’s been well seasoned. Even the cracked pieces interest me as I plan to fill with resin and see what effects I get.

The Apple wasnt the only wood I collected that Saturday. I also spent a bit of time on the going through the woodpiles and even the sheep shed finding some lovely pieces of redgum. I had my Dad take to these with the chainsaw to get them into managable sizes and then a few more bowl blanks were cut out on the bandsaw.

My eyes may be too big for my lathe though, some of teh pieces were so big the bandsaw wasnt big enough, so they’ve been taken away to find a bigger bandsaw that can actually cut them for me!
